Zambales Mountains is an Important Biodiversity Area (IBA) designed as PH 005. It is among the few remaining tropical rainforests in the country and a habitat of numerous endemic, unique, and threatened species of plants and animals. This IBA also harbors critical watersheds for neighboring Zambales and Tarlac provinces.

In this poster the difference between a Protected Area under the Philippine NIPAS Act and a Critical Habitat is distinquished. Both are approaches to management of a certain area of biodiversity.
