On October 2nd, the Haribon Foundation held its Biodiversity Rocks! concert at the Hard Rock Cafe Makati. The proceeds from the concert will be used toward Haribon’s Rainforest Organizations and Advocates or ROAD to 2020 campaign, which aims to bring back the Philippine rainforests using native tree species. Each ticket purchase adopted a seedling in each attendee’s behalf, and included a complimentary cocktail exclusively made for the event by Hard Rock bartenders.
With Philippine forests in a state of degradation, the event not only added more funds to the program, but also more attention. Hosted by Haribon Chair and violinist John Lesaca and RX 93.1’s Dr. Love Tom Alvarez, forest statistics and data were announced throughout the program.

In an effort to push for the adoption of more trees, the hosts announced Haribon’s goal of planting an entire forest with the Biodiversity Rocks! attendees. By adopting a lot (5 seedlings for a donation of P1,000), adopting a block (15 seedlings for a donation of P3,000), adopting a plot (30 seedlings for a donation of P6,000), or adopting a patch (50 seedings for a donation of P10,000), attendees were given a chance to “turn up the volume” on their commitment to environmental sustainability.
With the talented performances of the Itchyworms, Ebe Dancel, Rita de Guzman, Jeffery Hidalgo, & Tonight We Sleep, the event also celebrated Haribon’s 41 years of Philippine environment conservation. Haribon Ambassador for Conservation Iza Calzado attended as well, along with Youtube celebrity Bogart the Explorer who gave his own expertise about Philippine forests and their ability to retain water for surrounding communities.

The event proved to be another example of the ongoing efforts in the country aimed at restoring Philippine forests. It reminded everyone involved that getting together for the country’s watersheds, forests, and the communities they serve, whether it be for a night, or for a lifetime, was the only way we can give back.
For indeed human beings love to go out and party. So why not do it for the trees that give us the air and water to do so?
